I'm here to report about our FUN week!
On Thursday Dmitri and I headed to the
Children's Discovery Center.
{still sporting sleepy eyes}
I've heard it's not worth the money,
{$8 for military and locals, $10 for non}
and you have to pay for kids older then
a year.
And full price.
But I wanted to get out and do something
fun, so we went to check it out!
I wanted Daniel to go, but he had worked
the night before, and the following night.
But he was pooped, and would be more
pooped, so he stayed home and slept.
The Discovery Center has weird hours. It's
open 9:30-1 most days, then 10-1 two days
and closed Mondays.
It's downtown and in kind of a creepy area.
When we were driving up to it, there was a
lot of homeless tents and strange people
walking around.
That and when I pulled into the parking lot,
there were like no cars!
Parking is located across the street from the
center, so I figured we'd be fine... and I walked
really fast across the street - staying as far as
I could from the bushes :}
Luckily the sign said 'open' so in we went!
The first exhibit just tells you about all the
areas.
The first room had flashing lights, which totally
drew Dmitri in. We went in, and it had a little
stage set up, along with cameras and some tv's
so you could watch yourself on stage.
Dmitri was a little confused when he saw me in
the tv. Then he saw himself... and it was love.
He started jumping and dancing and had a great
time with it.
If I haven't said this before... Dmitri is a bit
conceded. Lol not joking! He likes looking at
himself in the mirror and on the camera. He's
been like this since he was an infant.
Anyways... we had a good time with that!
The next area taught about the body and how
it works.
They showed how the heart and lung work, and
the stomach. There was a stethoscope so you
could hear your own heartbeat, and then turn
the dial and listen to different animal heartbeats.
Some of the other areas were, a giant mouth,
an eye doctor area, tee ball, a kitchen, a wheel
chair race course {those things are harder to
operate then they look} and then a "my town"
section.
In the my town there was a bus you could pretend to
drive, a cafe, doctors office, post office, grocery
store, police station, fire department {with an
upstairs}, a court and the post office.

Dmitri's fave there was the recycling center. He
throws anything and everything away - so he
collected whatever he could find and threw it in
the bins - then opened the doors to get the stuff
out.
He also liked the bus. A lot. {I promise}

There was one section he didn't like. Which
surprised me. It was a lot like the first room we
saw {that he loved}. It had flashing lights and all
that, but he wouldn't go in it - just stood in front
of it looking in.
It was supposed to be a theater. There was a little
ticket area, and seats to sit in.
There were some kids playing on the stage, and he
just clutched onto my leg and wouldn't let go. So
we ventured out to some other areas.
We came back to it when I realized there was a news
room and tv station. You could even pretend to be
the weatherman. So we went into the theater area,
but through the news room.
Then entered the holy grail in Dmitri's opinion...
Hidden behind the stage was.... LIGHTS! And buttons!
You could pull levers and change the lighting colors.
You could push buttons to make it sound like clapping
and then buttons for music and sound effects.
He LOVED it! So I'm glad we went back... even though
he was scared at first.
I thought it was just the one floor - so we stayed
there for a couple hours. Luckily Dmitri never
seemed to get tired of anything.
But we investigated a little more, and the last hour
and a half left... realized there were two other floors!!
The second floor was of Hawaii. It talked about how
Hawaii came to be, how the early settlers survived
and about Hawaii now.

Dmitri was weary of these manikins they had.
I was too... they looked a little to real... I didn't
want to turn my back on them.
There was part of an airplane {inside the plane}
and a ship that you could pretend to be captain.
{they had really cool dress up stuff}
They had a faux coral area where you can make
giant bubbles - which was really fun!
Dmitri met a friend there, and then followed him
around :}
The next level had little Japanese houses. Along
with a Korean house, and Chinese.
They also had phones you could pick up, and they'd
speak to you in the appropriate languages.
But Dmitri's FAVORITE thing there... the car.
He had SO much fun driving it. It was miniature,
so just his size.

But yea... I probably spent too much time describing
it X}
But Dmitri had A LOT of fun! He was so good and
I was really surprised. He threw 2 tantrums the
whole time we were there. And we were there for 3
hours.
{this was not a tantrum... he was laughing. Just pooped:}
He passed out on the way home. So tired that he
was drooling... :}
So that was our Thursday. So fun - and glad we went!
Today I babysat - which went fine. I also watched a
girl from our ward for about an hour.
I turned on a movie, and since Dmitri really isn't into
movies, I asked her what she wanted to watch {she's 3}.
She picked Cinderella. Dmitri wasn't thrilled. There
was one point where he covered himself with the
sofa pillows :}
But yes - not too bad today!
I got some sewing in, and made Dmitri this shirt.
I take ideas from another website, and try to
recreate what I can.
I swear, I saw this shirt on there a week or so ago.
But now I cannot find it! I don't know if I saw a
similar shirt, then dreamed about the shirt I made,
I don't know. But I feel a little crazy.
Anywhos - I made the shirt based on memory. Just
a simple applique I cut out of scrap fabric. So the shirt
cost $5 - the price of just the black shirt I used.

Not bad! But now I wish I had put the shark on the
front... because it kind of looks like he's coming
out of Dmitri's bum. Which is weird. Ohwell.
I also made the hobo sack I saw on here! I love
it, and it was so easy to make! i wish I had her striped
drawstring though... :\

And I like that Dmitri's current toy of choice only
cost .97 each. Well... I guess that still adds up if
you buy more then one. But still!
So yes.
Tomorrow I'm helping out with the Primary activity.
I'm going to bring Dmitri - even though Daniel will
be home. I think he'll have fun!
Randoms -
Trying on Daniel's running shoes
and going running :}
Bathtime!
PS - I'm totally congested, and have needed to
sneeze for the past 3 hours..... and I'm going to
bed with a messy house.
Night!
:]
{hope these videos work... Dmitri playing
tee ball. He kept trying to go under the net, instead
of around. And he held the bat upside down:}

1. If you are congested try nasal spray. I bought the baby ayr brand (yes, that's air spelled with a y). I've always been afraid of nasal spray but I was SO miserable that I broke down. I have never had so much snot come out of my nose.
ReplyDelete2. That museum looks really fun! It makes me think maybe I could take Andrew to a museum like that. I know there is one in Stockton.
3. How on earth do you get dmitri to lay down in the bathtub? Andrew wants nothing to do with sitting in it. I'm thinking about getting some of those bath markers and trying those.
4. When do you guys leave for Utah?
How Fun !! Cute pics you took !! We are so happy to seeing you guys soon! I can't belive Dmitri is growing alot this time.. He is getting big! He is always so happy boy! Have a safe trip coming up to Utah soon! We hope we can seeing you guys and seeing Taylor too!! We will miss seeing Daniel! Take care!
