About Me

My photo
We are Daniel and Sara. We met October of 2006 and were married August of 2007 in the Salt Lake Temple. Since then we're kind of in the fast lane. We both got the baby bug pretty early on in our marriage and we welcomed our beautiful baby boy Dmitri in August 2008! We couldn't be happier! Daniel is a Captain in the Army and has his Bachelors in Nursing. We're living in HI and so far are enjoying our time here! I'm a stay at home mommy and am looking forward to finishing school. Blah :} Dan enjoys; hunting, basketball, shooting ranges, movies, *sigh - video games and Halloween. Sara enjoys; crocheting, baking, aquariums, sewing, shopping, swimming and trying to get organized. Dmitri enjoys; trying new food, crawling, bath time, stroller rides, electronics and getting into things he shouldn't. It takes all kinds to make up a family - and we cherish and love our little family! :)

C.R.A.Z.Y. weekend.

Woke up Saturday morning around 5am to
Daniel's phone going off.
When I checked the time on my phone... I
saw that I had some text messages.

A sudden feeling of panic, because 5am texts
and phone calls are NEVER good.

We were informed that a tsunami was coming
our way, and we kept hearing the words
"evacuation"
Scary. Because how do you evacuate an entire
island{s} in 6 hours? Where do enough planes
or boats come from?

So sudden knot in my stomach. Daniel had to
work that morning. Of course. He also had to
work when we had the hurricane warning last
summer {luckily it turned into a tropical storm
and then just a tiny bit of rain}. So I don't know
what's up with that.
I wanted to pack us up and go to work with him.
The hospitals on a big ol' hill - and it's a hospital.
But he said I didn't need to. That we'd be fine, and
I'd just end up bored.

A few people from our ward went to the local Army
base to wait things out.
But Dmitri and I stayed home... alone. Never good.

The news kept saying to look in the phone book to
see if we live in a evacuation zone. Too bad I threw
away all our phone books because I had no room
for them.
I kept trying to look online, but all the websites were
overloaded, so I couldn't find out from there.

Finally I came across a google image of the zones,
and we're about 4,5 miles away from the cutoff
zone.
I also found out from a few ward members {that are
less then a mile from the evacuation zones} that we're
built up 20-25feet. And they all stayed home, so I
felt a little better. But still... total knot.

I filled up one of the bathtubs, turned the fridge and
freezer up - gathered all our food storage and emergency
supplies and set them by the door - just in case we needed to
make a swift exit. I also made mental notes of the quickest
ways to safety. So we sat... and waited. And waited. The first tsunami
was supposed to hit the big island at 11:05am. So
sitting there waiting was like watching grass grow.
The tsunami hit the Marquesas Islands... 6 ft tsunami,
but no damage done. They have the same island
configuration as the Hawaiian, so that was good news.

Then another his Tahiti... small tsunami, but they're
surrounded by a reef - which slowed the wave down.
Still good.

11:05 comes around... the bay in Hilo starts to recede,
then fill... then recede... then fill... and that was that.

I think Maui then Molokai, then us at 11:27.... and there
was some action. They said whales were moving away,
surprised fish were washing up on shores... but still no
big waves. Whew!

Luckily even though the tsunami did come, it wasn't
as big as predicted. So it was just surges of water.
They still kept the warning in affect until they were
positive there was no hazard.
So around 3 or so, they canceled the warning. So relived!

I was in need of a soda - seriously bad. So Dmitri and
I ventured out to get one.
The news said all the stores had been closed, and events
canceled - so I didn't know if we'd actually find anything.

Luckily there was quite a bit open. I settled for a Dt. Coke
from Wendy's and a fruit punch for Dmitri. As I was
driving away - I realized how high up we actually are from
the ocean.
Wendy's is on a bigger hill then my house, but just being
up there, I could see the coast - which was a good couple
miles away.
So that made me feel safer knowing that.

Dmitri and I finished off our night with a trip to Subway
for dinner, then Target for diapers.
As I was packing up our emergency stuff - I realized I
only had 5 diapers. So not good when packing a 5-7
day supply...

So yes... that was our scary Saturday. I didn't like it.
The news said Hawaii can expect a big tsunami warning
every 7 or so years. The last one was in 94. So they
said we were overdue.
I figure if there's one every 7 years... and I have less
then 2 years left here... I should be in the clear.
And there better not be double warnings to make up
for the lost time!
So not okay with that.

And Daniel suggested I drive the car down to the
coast and leave it there. And if we were lucky the
tsunami would wash it away.
I liked his thinking! Except the part of me driving
it... then having to walk home because he has the
other car at work...

Alright... anywhos.
Sunday we slouched most the day. Dmitri took a
long nap and slept through Sacrament.
Daniel was feeling blah and decided to stay home,
and I was totally behind.

So I had to rush Dmitri and myself out of the
house to make it in time for my class!

I dropped Dmitri off at Nursery. His teacher had
an idea, instead of handing Dmitri to her, hand
him to Jeffrey and see how he does.
I handed him over to Jeffrey, and he went right to
him. But when he found out I wasn't going with
him... he started tearing up.
So I had to leave really quick.... :[

My class went okay... This all boy one girl thing
is not working for me. I need some girls in there
to break up the boys! There is so much noise and
chatter.
Ugh.
Part of the lesson talked about growing in the
church and staying close to the Lord as we grow.

So I went along with that and measured them and
they wrote it down on a handout I made along with
their names, date and age.
So they were really excited about that!
We had 3 'winners' for tallest - at 4'5" and 2 for
shortest at 4'2". Well... one was more like 4'1"ish,
but I didn't want to make him feel bad... so I
rounded up :P

I checked on Dmitri, because the curtain to the
Nursery room was cracked a little.
He was playing with blocks on the carpet - so I
knew he was alright.
Primary ran over - the Nursery was delivering
kids to parents. Which I thought was funny :)

Jeffrey brought Dmitri to me, and I went to reach
for him. Well... the little booger didn't want to go
to me!
He turned away!!
I tried again - and same thing! So I just grabbed
him.
He wanted to stay and play - so I guess he had
a good time!

Sunday evening we went for a walk. We let Dmitri
walk on his own. We went to the park and ran
around the baseball diamond and field. Dmitri
LOVED it! We took turns chasing after him, which
he thinks is so fun.
After that we got some frozen yogurt
{because Daniel never wants to go when I do,
and I don't want to be the only one}
I love frozen yogurt!
Made my night :}

Monday, Daniel had to work the night shift - so
he stayed up later on Sunday evening and then
slept in Monday morning.
I didn't have to babysit... so that was nice! I did
some errands and some cleaning. Fun.

So just a quiet Monday.

Today, Daniel slept until like 3 - so it was just
me and the kid.
We cleaned up the lanai because Daniel keeps
complaining about the left over water balloons.
Blah blah :}
So we cleaned up the front - and filled up and
bin with water and played in it.

Dmitri loved it.
:)

This morning Dmitri was getting in some
of his Sesame Street.
There was a segment called
'The American I'
Dmitri has seen it before, but this time he was
soooo into it! He kept clapping and cheering.
When the segment would end, he'd run up to me
freaking out. I probably re-winded it 8 times!!

After he got his fix, I just turned it to Disney
{I think} and the 'Happy Monster Band' was
on. They were also doing an American Idol
parody - and Dmitri was sooo into it too!
Too bad I hadn't recoded it... and changed the
channel after it was over {deleting all the saved info}
So he was pretty upset I couldn't rewind it.... :\

Too bad he's always asleep when Daniel and I
watch American Idol.
I told Daniel that for as much as Dmitri likes
singing and instruments... I hope he has a good
voice and/or is really good at playing
instruments.

He's mesmerized when people sing.
Well... anyone but me. He laughs with I sing.
I don't know what's up with that.......

I tried on his old snow hat and gloves.
They're a bit small....
Luckily everyone in UT says it's been nice
there. So hopefully we wont need them!Changing himself... He only changes pee pee diapers. Well, I'll
only let him get away with changing pee pee
diapers.
He can't put the new diaper on... but he can take the
old one off, wipe himself, then throw the diaper
in the trash.
He does try to out on the new diaper.
He just sticks it between his legs and
walks off X}

I stopped by Pier 1 on Monday.
I love them. Great deals to be found!!
I bought 3 rugs - $7 each and then a runner
for $9. I love the colors - and it matched
Dmitri's lunch - which I thought was neat :)Which followed with pics during lunch. And a random nose in my smoothie!!

  2. I never think to try pier 1. I think it's always going to be expensive. Maybe I'll have to go and check it out.
Lol a lot about putting the car somewhere where it will wash away. I'm sorry you guys have to deal with that.
